How to Prepare

What to Bring:

Required

  • Laptop and laptop charger
  • Your brain – Hackathons require advanced skills in intensive thinking
  • A little drive and motivation (Showing up is only half the battle!)

Optional

  • Sleeping bag, blankets, pillows – for your own personal comfort! This includes your own refillable water bottle and your own preferred snacks (we will provide food, snacks, and drinks though!)
  • NFC Enabled devices (if you have any!) – not necessary, though, as Samsung will provide 15-20 NFC phones to be used by the teams during the Hackathon
  • A friend for your team – note: we’ll be forming teams at the event so you’ll make new friends

For Android, one member of the team is required to have experience with either:

  • Java and/or Android SDK

  2. Android Applications: http://developer.android.com/guide/components/fundamentals.html
  3. App Inventor: http://appinventor.mit.edu
  4. Get the Android SDK: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
  5. Android NFC: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/connectivity/nfc/index.html http://www.tappednfc.com/android-nfc-developer-guide/

*Note: if you are proficient in Java, we still recommend looking into the Android SDK (specifically, the NFC methods) in order to have a competitive edge

If you are coding for Windows Phone 8 or Blackberry you will need to bring your own devices.  For these platforms one member of the team is required to have experience with either:
